An access log is a comprehensive list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a certain Internet site. Every file which was requested for whatever reason will be listed, so if you have one page with 3 embedded pics, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log shall contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files that were accessed when the site visitor opened the page. A log normally provides the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, browser and IP address. Sometimes you could also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your site. The data an access log file includes is in human-readable plain text format. It could be processed by special software on a PC and used to write reports on the functionality of a website, aside from the web statistics your hosting server may have created.
Access Log Manager in Hosting
Our custom Hepsia Control Panel has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your hosting account and go to this section, you'll find a list of all the domains and subdomains that you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you will see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantly, so if you no longer require one, you'll be able to stop it with a click from the exact same section of the CP. You shall still be able to access the already developed content by simply clicking the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The function may be permitted through the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel and this could be done individually for each domain or subdomain that you have within your account. Once you log in and go to the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. A single click shall enable the log generation and a second one shall disable it, so you can control this feature with great efficiency. A Download link in the same section will enable you to save the generated content as a text file, which you may then use on your laptop or computer. Whether or not the logs are deactivated, you will still be able to download the data which has been previously generated.
