Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they signify for your website?
If you would like keep some content concealed from the public eye, you'll be able to enable password protection for a specific folder - either the primary site folder or another one below it. Whenever this feature is enabled, a pop-up will appear anytime someone attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login info shall be required for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg in case you have protected just the domain.com folder. In case the credentials aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there is no way of getting around this restriction, so you can be positive that no one shall be able access the secured content. The option could be useful in various situations - if only certain individuals must be able to see certain files, if you are developing a website and you don't want people to see it before it's completed, and so on.

Password Protected Directories in Hosting
If you use any of our
hosting products, you'll be able to make password-protected areas with ease even if you have zero experience with this kind of matters. We've included a very easy-to-use point-and-click tool within the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts, so you will be able to shield any folder within just seconds. You will simply have to select a domain or a subdomain and the exact folder that should be secured (the main one or a subfolder), and then to input the desired username and password which will be used to access the folder in question in the future. Any protected folder shall have padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you shall be able to see easily what content is protected and what's not. If necessary, you can create several different sets of login credentials for precisely the same folder.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a
semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to shield any content that you have uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's a part of, so you shall not need to enter any code at any time. You'll only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains you have inside the website hosting account and to select which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then type in the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection will be enabled straightaway, so anybody who tries to access the newly secured folder will have to input the correct login details. In cases where several individuals must be able to access the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
